Description
Three pale green bottles were found during the excavation, two complete vials found in the Barber Surgeon’s chest and a broken one found nearby.
At this time, more people died at sea from disease than injury but the basic equipment used by the surgeon remained the same for centuries! These bottles would have been relatively expensive items and rather delicate for use on board a ship and therefore it seems likely they would have been used to store volatile, caustic or corrosive items such as mercury or expensive liquids such as scented waters or oils used for shaving.
All Medicine Bottles are hand crafted. Please note there may be variations in size and colour from the image shown.
