Description
This greetings card features the legend of English literature, Charlotte Brontë.
Charlotte was a part of the famous Brontë family. Like her sisters, Emily and Anne, she was a writer.
She is now best known for her novels, including Jane Eyre, which is regarded as one of the finest novels in English literature.
Charlotte met Elizabeth Gaskell in 1850, and they went on to become very close friends. Charlotte came to visit Elizabeth at her home, which is now open to the public as Elizabeth Gaskell’s House. The museum has an exhibition room named after Charlotte.
Charlotte died in 1855, and Elizabeth was asked by Charlotte’s father Patrick to write her biography. This was eventually published as The Life of Charlotte Brontë.
This purple card features an illustration of Charlotte Brontë and the quote, ‘I am not an angel and I will not be one till I die: I will be myself’, taken from her novel, Jane Eyre.
