Description

This delightful children’s book was written and illustrated by Brenda Tyler, Sheriff’s Lady of York in 2016. It draws on the Scandinavian folklore of Viking age York and the true story of John Bowes Morrell’s Christmas as Lord Mayor.

The story follows the lives of the little Tomtes, house fairies of Scandinavian origin who help with household chores and love Christmas. They help the Lord Mayor save Christmas for the people of York while living in York Mansion House.

York Mansion House

Past the grandeur of the prominent green doors and beautiful façade lies a home built for entertaining royalty, with a rich civic and personal history. As the oldest purpose built home for a Lord Mayor in the country, the stories of scandal and frivolity woven into the fabric of the building are still being told, and we’d love for you to discover them.

We will be closed to visitors until our Georgian Festival in August. In the meantime, please check out our online shop for wonderful civic memorabilia.
