An Account of William Henry Colborne and the Colbornes of Chippenham

William Henry Colborne was a doctor in Chippenham, Wiltshire in the middle of the 19th Century. He was the fourth generation of his family to be a medical man, but William was one of the first university-educated doctors who became the forerunners of today’s General Practitioners.

This is the story of the author’s great-great-grandfather, his life and his family. It is also the story of a time of great change in medical practice.

The Colborne family has a long association with Chippenham, dating back to at least the 1500s. This volume also includes accounts of several other Colbornes of Chippenham, who have been part of the history of the town over the generations.
