Shopping in Tiverton – Online Talk

£5.50

Did you know that Tiverton’s market day was changed from Monday to Tuesday in 1655… specifically because it was thought that traders prepping their wares on a Sunday was provoking God’s wrath?
The two Great Fires of 1598 and 1612 were cited as absolute proof of this!
That’s the kind of story you’ll hear in our Shopping in Tiverton talk, where museum director Pippa, traces the history of shopping on Tiverton’s main streets from the medieval market right through to the supermarket age. Market charters, shop fronts, fires, fashion changes, and plenty of photographs from our own collection, shared on screen throughout.

Can’t make our talks in person? You can now watch from home.

Once you’ve booked, you’ll receive a link and passcode with your confirmation email. The talk is hosted via Zoom – no account needed, just the ability to open the app or click a link. Approximately one hour long, and yours to watch as many times as you like.

Please note this recording is for personal use only and we’d ask that links and passcodes are not shared.
