Description
In 1915, York artist Edward Ridsdale Tate was commissioned by the then editor of the York Herald, David Leith Presley, to draw a panoramic bird’s eye view of the city of York as it would have looked in the 15th century.
This stunning and detailed painting now hangs in York Mansion House and can be seen by visitors. You can now own a mug featuring this unique design.
Details of the walls, castle and abbey can be seen with striking linework in all their complete glory.
Past the grandeur of the prominent green doors and beautiful façade lies a home built for entertaining royalty, with a rich civic and personal history. As the oldest purpose built home for a Lord Mayor in the country, the stories of scandal and frivolity woven into the fabric of the building are still being told, and we’d love for you to discover them.
We will be closed to visitors until our Georgian Festival in August. In the meantime, please check out our online shop for wonderful civic memorabilia.
