A personal overview of Scotch Whisky – how it is made, the different types and styles, how the worldwide market is evolving, and experiences of selling it in over 50 countries around the world from Canada to Vietnam to Malawi. Richard White will debunk some myths about Scotch and offer some personal recommendations. He has been a Keeper of the Quaich since 1998 and Master since 2008, and spent 32 years in the Scotch Whisky and Global Drinks industry. He has lived in Crieff for nearly 30 years and is currently Convenor of the Friends of Innerpeffray Library Committee.
Innerpeffray is the home of Scotland’s first free, public lending library, established in 1680 by David Drummond, 3rd Lord Madertie. His idea that people could take the books home to read them was a radical one at the time, and he wanted his library to be here “for time coming”; a vision we stand by today. The Library is a fascinating door into the past where you can explore the stories of the people who borrowed books and visited the Library. We offer guided tours and a chance to handle the books for yourself. The site at Innerpeffray also includes the medieval chapel of St Mary (in the care of Historic Environment Scotland) and the Victorian schoolroom where visitors can find refreshments with a self-serve tea & coffee machine. Situated in rural Perthshire, the grounds of the Library also offer a pleasant riverside walk.
