If you are a UK taxpayer, you can boost your donation by 25p on every £1 by selecting and ‘Adult with Gift Aid’ ticket. Our ticket price of £10 includes a £1 donation – if you do not wish to make this donation please select the ‘Adult No Donation’ option.

Due to the nature of the 18th-century Library building not all areas are wheelchair accessible. The main Library collection is on the first floor, and the Library building is a short distance from the car park. Please let us know if you have mobility concerns before your visit – we are often able to bring books from the main collection to be viewed on the ground floor to make our collection as accessible as possible.

Innerpeffray Library

Innerpeffray is the home of Scotland’s first free, public lending library, established in 1680 by David Drummond, 3rd Lord Madertie. His idea that people could take the books home to read them was a radical one at the time, and he wanted his library to be here “for time coming”; a vision we stand by today. The Library is a fascinating door into the past where you can explore the stories of the people who borrowed books and visited the Library. We offer guided tours and a chance to handle the books for yourself.  The site at Innerpeffray also includes the medieval chapel of St Mary (in the care of Historic Environment Scotland) and the Victorian schoolroom where visitors can find refreshments with a self-serve tea & coffee machine. Situated in rural Perthshire, the grounds of the Library also offer a pleasant riverside walk. We hold a varied programme of events throughout the year, from talks and workshops to theatre, fairs and a festival. General admission tickets and tickets for events can be booked online here.
