Downloadable Talk: The Literary Regiment

£7.00

Description

No other Regiment is as famous for its quality of poets and authors from the Great War than the Royal Welch Fusiliers. Join Museum Trustee, Anne Pedley, for a talk on the Regiment’s literature of the Great War. We will be looking into the lives, service, and literary works of some of the Regiment’s best known figures including Llewelyn Wyn Griffith, Siegfried Sassoon, Hedd Wynn (Ellis Humphrey Evans), Robert Graves and David Jones.

Anne Pedley is a former lecturer who has had a life-long interest in the Great War, especially through letters, photographs and journals of the time. An enthusiastic, amateur historian her talks reflect a personal interest in the literature and art of the conflict and how the war affected different aspects of society. Anne Pedley has been a Trustee of the Royal Welch Fusiliers Trust for nearly 20 years and has been associated with the archive for even longer. The Regiment, with its long history and association with artists, poets, writers and actors, has enabled Anne to research the connection between several of the art works in the museum collection that can be accessed via the Art UK website and their links with the poets and writers of the Regiment.

We rely on grant, donations, and visitor support to carry out our mission to preserve, promote, and educate on the history of the Regiment and remember those who served our country. Proceeds from shopping on our site, booking tours, and purchasing tickets to events go towards care for over 20,000 objects in the collection, providing educational opportunities for schools, groups and international audiences, maintaining the museum, and outreach programs to the community.

The mission of the Royal Welch Fusiliers Museum is to:

To maintain a leading international Regimental Museum which portrays the story of over 300 years of service by members of the Royal Welch Fusiliers through exhibitions, education, research, and programs.

To assist in keeping the modern Army and the successor Regiment relevant and to increase public awareness of them.

To collect objects and documents relating to the history of the Regiment.

To conserve and document all archives and documents we collect.

To make the archives and reserve collection accessible to researchers and for educational purposes.
