William Wordsworth – The Prelude (limited edition)

£450.00

This limited edition book was commissioned to celebrate the bicentenary of Wordsworth’s greatest poem. Hand-crafted by artist David Esselmont from its paper to its exquisite binding, this edition follows the text of one of the Wordsworth Trust’s greatest treasures, the fair copy of ‘The Prelude’ made by Dorothy Wordsworth in 1805 known as Manuscript A.  It is accompanied by 14 original illustrations by David Esselmont inspired by his reaction to the Lake District landscape.

An illuminating  essay by Dr Robert Woof, the Wordsworth Trust’s first director, traces the changes that were made to the text between the first fragments of 1798 and the poem as it was completed in 1805-6.

This rare edition and masterpiece of bookmaking is a sought-after collector’s item.
