Description
Rob McInroy is the author of a historical crime fiction series set in Crieff and Perth in the 1930s and 1940s. Using real events and places as a backdrop, the books evoke a strong sense of time and place, accurately depicting Perthshire before and during the Second World War.
Rob will be talking about his latest novel, Barvick Falls, which is set entirely in Crieff, beginning on the day war is declared. Barvick Falls has been shortlisted for the CWA Historical Dagger Award 2026. He will also talk about the other books in the series and how Crieff and Strathearn influence his writing.
Innerpeffray is the home of Scotland’s first free, public lending library, established in 1680 by David Drummond, 3rd Lord Madertie. His idea that people could take the books home to read them was a radical one at the time, and he wanted his library to be here “for time coming”; a vision we stand by today. The Library is a fascinating door into the past where you can explore the stories of the people who borrowed books and visited the Library. We offer guided tours and a chance to handle the books for yourself. The site at Innerpeffray also includes the medieval chapel of St Mary (in the care of Historic Environment Scotland) and the Victorian schoolroom where visitors can find refreshments with a self-serve tea & coffee machine. Situated in rural Perthshire, the grounds of the Library also offer a pleasant riverside walk. We hold a varied programme of events throughout the year, from talks and workshops to theatre, fairs and a festival. General admission tickets and tickets for events can be booked online here.
